Winnekenni Foundation, Inc. Today

The Foundation’s primary purpose is to promote the arts and sciences. This is mainly accomplished via programming and presentations that are offered to the public (often free of charge, or of very low cost).

In addition to making events available at the Castle to those across the region, the Board bears the responsibility of preserving history by maintaining not only the Castle but five other buildings and structures located at the upper Winnekenni property –Caretakers Cottage, Carriage Barn and three smaller outbuildings which are used for recreation and storage.

As these antique buildings continue to age, more and more income is needed every year to keep pace with repairs. Ideally we need even more funding in order to address deferred buildings maintenance, achieve overdue improvements to the buildings and enhancements to the grounds, such as completion of a creative picnic area, installation of lighted parking areas, expanded flower gardens, restoration and transformation of the Carriage Barn into multipurpose performance & activity space complete with a café and gift shop! The Castle itself is in need of added storage, additional restrooms, a kitchen expansion, a new HVAC system, new flooring and near complete re-pointing of the masonry both inside and out. These goals are challenging to say the least, particularly during these strained financial times. It is a step by step process.

To these ends, we ask the public to support our efforts through Membership donations , event / project sponsorships and also by attending Castle events. Additionally, the Castle generates limited income by making it available for private rentals. As we move forward, particular focus must now be paid to the establishment of endowments and identifying funding and grant sources in order to secure the needed capital for rehab., renovations, improvements and growth. We are seeking out volunteers who are committed to actively assisting in these ongoing efforts.
